WORLD'S LARGEST PIZZA

The worlds largest pizza was created on December 8, 1990. At the Pick ‘n Play hypermarket in Johannesburg, South Africa, a pizza that measured 37.4 meters in diameter was made. It took 500 kg of flour, 800 kg of cheese and 900 kg of tomato puree. Wow! Now that’s a pizza of pizzas.

Top 10 PIZZA CHAIN IN THE PHILIPPINES

Top 10 Pizza Parlors in the Philippines

LOTS'A PIZZA

LOTS'A PIZZA has been spread all over Luzon and parts of Cebu with 169 branches through the strong SM Mall Branches, Puregold Branches and independent franchises, and soon all over Visayas and Mindanao. What can't be liked in LOTS'A PIZZA? It's value for money, quality products with premium toppings at very affordable prices & true to it's slogan "Lots' of Toppings, Lots of Savings," it catered to the mass with it's affordable, palette friendly flavors and less oily and healthy par-baked crusts for the adults and kids. Try their signature Great Manhattan, 100% Pure Beef Special and Kid-Friendly Hawaiian. Pinoy pizza in taste but international in standards. Truly, one of the mainstays for Pinoys' Pizza craving!

Pizza Hut

Pizza Hut may be THE pizza of choice of Filipinos. Need to order pizza? What easier number to dial than 9111111? Plus, it was Pizza Hut who popularized the stuffed crust idea, and from then on the flavor of the pizza wasn’t our only dilemma: will it be cheesy pops, sausage pops, or cheesy volcano for you? We’ve tried out their classic pan pizzas, and now we’re given the chance to taste Europe with their Viva Italian Pizza line. Roma, per favore!

Greenwich

Greenwich is really way in, thanks in part to the amount of starpower they’re using in their ads. But not only that: Greenwich pizzas just simply taste good. Grab a party square pizza to eat
with your friends, and if you’re not sure which flavor to order, try out their G4 pizza (4 different flavors in one). Remember their sisig pizza and their lechon pizza? That’s Pinoy taste for you! But whatever you do, don’t miss out on their Extreme Cheese pizzas. “Cheesy!”

Shakey’s

Ah, Shakey’s. Let’s call it one of the big three of Pinoy pizza. We Pinoys (and apparently, the rest of the world, too) love the thin crust variant because of its crispiness. Don’t miss out on their famous Manager’s Choice pizza. Meat lover? Shakey’s Angus Steakhouse pizza is calling your name! And don’t forget the ambience that Shakey’s pizza parlors are loved for.

Yellow Cab

Founded in 2001, Yellow Cab is a relatively young pizza chain, but it soon outgrew its competitors. Now, visions of giant 18 inch pizzas fit for any party (or for one very hungry person) come to mind whenever we think of Yellow Cab. Its most popular flavor would remain to be their Four Cheese pizza (mozzarella, cheddar, romano and feta), though their other flavors, most notably their Roasted Garlic and Shrimp and their Barbecue Chicken Pizza, aren’t shabby at all. Want to have it all? Grab their gourmet sampler, which has four different flavors in one heavenly pie.

Sbarro’s

Sbarro’s may not hold that much mass appeal; its target market is mostly the middle to upper-class. However, it’s always considered a worthy treat to eat pizza at Sbarro’s. If you’re on a budget you could always order pizza at Sbarro’s by the slice; you’ll likely to find one sumptious slice to be heavy enough to live on, at least for five hours. They have thin crust pizzas like the rest, but their deep dish pizzas are to die for. A must-try: their spinach and mushroom pizza (for veggie lovers), and their white cheese pizza (yum).
California Pizza Kitchen

California Pizza Kitchen (or CPK) isn’t as ubiquitous here in the Philippines as the other pizza parlors mentioned above, but any true-blue pizza afficionado has California Pizza Kitchen in its list of must-eats. Their most popular pizza flavor is their original Barbeque Chicken, as well as their White Pizza. Try out their Adobo Chicken Pizza if you can’t have enough of this popular Pinoy dish.

Brooklyn Pizza

Not too ubiquitous (their branches so far are at Pasong Tamo, Paranaque and Makati), but worth flocking to. Order their Porko pizza, White pizza, or Deluxe Pizza, and experience a slice of New York.

3M

It may have recently made headlines, with its name being used in a secret code for a bribery, but that doesn’t take away our taste for 3M at all. 3M is Pinoy na Pinoy, and if you’re on a budget (as with most of us), 3M is the way to go. In Mini or Mega sizes, you could try out their specialty favors such as Beefy Meat Sauce, Pinoy Combo, and 3M Supreme. Savor its sweet sauce and flavorful cheeses. Perfect as an afternoon snack.

Don Henrico’s

Want to impress your date? Treat her to Don Henrico’s! Their masterful presentation and deliciously-flavored pizzas (made from genuinely high quality ingredients) leave even the harshest pizza critic very satisfied indeed. Order the Bacon Cheeseburger pizza or their home specialty, the DH Supreme Pizza. Just make sure she loves you for who you are, and not for the pizza you feed her.

TOP FIVE MOST EXPENSIVE PIZZA IN THE WORLD

Maze, London [Gordon Ramsey Restaurant] — $250
This pizza is topped with Italian onion puree with white truffle pasta, buffalo mozzarella, fontina cheese, pancetta, cep mushrooms, fresh herbs, and shaved with white truffle shavings that are added to the pie tableside. Now these truffles shavings are what jacks up the price, but the good thing is, as the chef is providing you tableside service, you can tell him how much truffle to put on, and how much to leave off. The more you add, the higher the cost.

New York City [Nino Bellisima]  –  $1,000
We’re only on number four, and we have already eclipsed the $1000 mark. Can you imagine how expensive number one will be? Anyway, this pizza was born on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.  It is 12 inches of thin crust joy topped with six types of caviar and two lobster tails.  But just exactly how much are these guys profiting from such a pie? Well, this particular pizza costs $720 to make. That means every time the sell one they’re making $280. That is more than most people make in a day.

Haggis, Glasgow  [Domenico Crolla Restaurant]  –  $4,200
This luxurious pie is named after the British super agent, James Bond. Known by all as the “Pizza Royale 007,” this pizza is sprinkled with 24-carat gold dust, topped with champagne-soaked caviar and lobster that is marinated in 100-year-old cognac.

Favitta’s Family Pizzeria, Henrietta New York  –  $8,200
This pie is known as the “Pizza for Lovers.” Seriously, $8,200 for a pizza? It better be sprinkled with diamonds. Wait a minute, it is sprinkled with diamonds, come on, really?  This pizza doesn’t cost so much because of the ingredients, it cost so much because it comes with a diamond ring and a bottle of Dom Perignon.  The price fluctuates depending on the size of the diamond. So gentleman, if you have a pizza loving girl out there, maybe this is the perfect way to pop the question.

Luis XIII, Salerno, Italy (Renato Viola Creation)  –  $12,000
The price tag on this one is straight ridiculous. The creation takes 72 hours to make because the dough is given ample time to rest before being made into the most expensive pie the world has ever known. It is topped with bufala mozzarella, three types of caviar, lobster from Norway and Cilento, and it is lightly dusted with hand picked grains of pink Australian sea-salt from the Murray River. The good thing is tha this pie can only be made in your home.

PROPER METHOD IN SERVINGS PIZZA

Hot or Cold Pizza
Pizza should be hot when served during dinner or lunch so that the cheese is capable of buring the roof of your mouth. This is known as a "pizza burn" and a great way to remember for a day or two that you had recently eaten pizza. It is important that the pizza be at a temperature that the cheese on the first few slices will stretch and form strings from your plate to the pie. If you are served a pizza in which this is not the case then you can be assured that the pizza has been setting too long and should be taken back and be remade. Acceptable exceptions are when a pizza is delivered. Fortunately a half a minute or so in the microwave can re-heat it to a scalding tempature.
Cold Pizza is acceptable during the morning hours and can be a great breakfast. Heating cold pizza in the microwave is okay too (that is the only acceptable time that a pizza should be heated in such a fashion). Care should be taken to ensure that the pizza is not overheated. Be aware that you probably will notice that reheated pizza tends to be drier or crispier. Some people will claim that the taste is more distinct and like it better but there have not been any known studies to prove an increase in flavor.
Cutting Pizza The minimal number of slices is four. They should be cut in an even number and sliced in the fashion of spokes of a wheel. Square pizza must be cut into squares or rectangles. The square shaped pie is not as prevalent but care should still be made to cut the pizza in an even fashion. A Rotary pizza cutter is the common utensil for cutting pizza since it can cut fast and precisely. This is an important factor since if the pizza is cut to slow, the melting cheese may grab onto the cutter and pull away from the top.
Serving
Pizza should be served on a plate or napkin. It is not necessary to serve it on fine China since paper plates will suffice. Many pizza establishments have done quite well serving on cheap, inexpensive paper plates. In addition, delivered pizza may be served and eaten right out of the box it came.
Eating Pizza
Pizza should be eaten by the slice. By no means should pizza ever be eaten in as a whole uncut pie. Nor should pizza be blended and drank as a liquid. The slice should be held carefully by the end by the crusty edge. The first bite should be the point and the last should be the edge. There is a misconception that new Yorkers and other people of the Northeast all eat pizza with the slices folded down the center like a taco. This is a misconception that was propagated by Pizza Hut during the promotion of their Big New Yorker pizza. There is no real evidence to merit any truth to this case since people all over the United States have been observed eating pizza in this fashion.
Some people will not eat the crust. If that is the case then it may be an indication that the pizza crust was poorly made or too bland. The norm is that folks eat the crust however there is a growing trend eaters to leave layers of crust on their plate. Some restaurants have capitalized on that by offering pizza with the topping to the edge. Other pizza places will offer a dipping sauce to complete the experience.
Side Dishes
Pizza is one of the few dishes that require no side dish, however it is all right to serve salads and other greens if one desires (side dishes should be eaten with a fork and not with the hands). The pizza should always be the main course unless pizza is served as an appetizer before an Italian dinner.
Appetizers
As stated previously, pizza can be served as an appetizer. If the pizza is served as the main meal some common appetizers are below:
  • Mozzarella Cheese Sticks
  • Buffalo Wings
  • Nachos
  • Fried Mushrooms
  • Stuffed Peppers

Beverages
Below is a list of acceptable beverages when ingesting pizza.
  • Soda Pop,
  • Fruit Juice
  • Fruit Punch
  • Instant Punch
  • Ice Tea
  • Beer (warm beer if the pizza is cold is acceptable)
  • Red Table Wines (Italian is preferred)
  • Water

PIZZA AND HEALTH

As one of the post popular dishes in the world, Pizza has found itself in the center of discussions about benefits and disadvantages of its consumption. Many scientists tested the impact and long term effects of pizza on our metabolism. One of the most common misconceptions about pizza is that they are the part of the so called "fast food" types of foods. In reality, pizza can actually be very nutritional meal that can provide adequate sustenance to our body and metabolism.

EFFECTS :

POSITIVE EFFECTS - good thing about pizza is that it has tomato sauce  that represent one of the basic and most used components of pizza toping. In its structure tomato contains Lycopene  which is known to be powerful antioxidant which helps in fight against many different types of cancer.People who eat pizza at least once a week have a smaller chance to get ill for several forms of cancer (mouth, stomach, lung, prostate and more). Some of the other ingredients have positive effect on our metabolism  such as olive oil that reduces bad cholesterol and increase good one and prevent heart diseases, Mozzarella cheese is rich with fats, protein, calcium and sodium, garlic is rich with selenium, manganese, vitamin C and other beneficial compounds, oregano is a good source of eatvitamin K, manganese, fiber and oils. For those people who are on a diet can found that vegetable pizza or one made from olives, olive oil and fish represent one of the best dietary meals on earth. They can be made in such way to have great taste and still have low amounts of fat and cholesterol that are normally associated with meals with meat and cheese. Cheese toppings on pizzas are also excellent source of calcium, which reduced the possibility of colon cancer. However, for healthier diet we recommend reducing the amount of cheese (it after all has high amount of fat), and instead using more tomato sauce. The good combination of crust, cheese, toppings can be used for crion of healthy pizza that will surely be good for everyone organism.

DIFFERENT VARIETY OF PIZZA

>>LAHMA BI AJEEN

This scrumptious version of pizza, which literally translates into "meat with dough" is brought to you by the Lebanese (other parts of the Middle East call it by other names) and is made with minced onions, usually ground lamb, cumin and yogurt. If you have never tried it, you really must! Soo delicious.

>>MARGHERITA

The pizza Margherita is just over a century old and is named after HM Queen Margherita of Italy, wife of King Umberto I and first Queen of Italy. It's made using toppings of tomato, mozzarella cheese, and fresh basil, which represent the red, white, and green of the Italian flag.

>>CALZONE

Calzone means 'stocking' in Italian and is a turnover that originates from Italy. Shaped like a semicircle, the calzone is made of dough folded over and filled with the usual pizza ingredients.

>>STROMBOLI

Many people think that strombolis and calzones are identical. However, this is not really the case. According to WIKI, "there are several theories regarding the origin of the stromboli. Romano's Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria claims to have originated it in 1950 in Essington, Tinicum Township, just outside of Philadelphia, by Nazzareno Romano. Others claim a stromboli sandwich with chili sauce was invented by Mike Aquino, Sr., in Spokane, Washington, named after the movie Stromboli starring Ingrid Bergman, in 1954."

>>MARINARA

This is your basic flat bread with oil, tomato, garlic, and oregano. In Italy, back in the old days, it was stored on voyages so that sailors (marinai) could make pizza away from home.

>>NEAPOLITAN

The Neapolitan hails from Naples and is the basis for our modern-day American pizza. Originally, the Neapolitan pie was served sans cheese. But around 1889, that seems to have changed when the Royal Palace commissioned the Neapolitan pizzaiolo Raffaele Esposito to create a pizza in honor of the visiting Queen Margherita. That's how the plain pizza morphed into the Margherita.

>> DEEP DISH

Chicago-style pizza may owe its existence to a bad enchilada. When partners Ike Sewell and Ric Riccardo planned to open a restaurant, Sewell, a native Texan, wanted to feature Mexican food. But one of the sample meals the partners tested made Riccardo so sick that he rejected Mexican food entirely. Riccardo suggested pizza, which he had encountered in Italy--as indeed many American servicemen were doing during World War II. Sewell's complaint with pizza was that it was insubstantial, little more than an appetizer--and readily available in Chicago's Little Italy neighborhood besides. Sewell wanted a substantial, meal-size pizza. After some experimenting, the partners devised something with a thick crust and plenty of cheese.
